 Disaster Services

The American Red Cross of North Central Iowa assists with all types of disasters. The Red Cross works to help those affected with disaster-caused needs on a case-by-case basis.  Red Cross assistance may include basic food and clothing, emergency shelter, emotional support and referrals to other resources for the victims.

Persons with disaster caused needs are encouraged to call the Red Cross at 641-424-2454 or toll-free at 877-331-6751 to talk about assistance that may be available.

The American Red Cross responds to house fires more than any other disaster.

American Red Cross disaster volunteers provide on-the-scene emergency assistance to those suffering from disaster.  Emergency assistance includes food, shelter, emotional support and other emergency items - and when additional assistance is needed, the Red Cross is able to guide families to other resources in the community.

How can you help?

Volunteer - By offering your time and talents, you can make a difference!  If you choose to volunteer for the Red Cross, you must fill out a volunteer application, get guidance from the chapter for your background check, and take disaster training.  It's as easy as that!  Also, as a volunteer, you receive Adult CPR and First Aid training at no charge.

Donations - Disaster relief is provided free to those families suffering loss after a disaster.  This is made possible by generous donations from people just like you.  The Red Cross focuses first on the basic emergency needs such as food, shelter and other essential items.

If you would like more information on how you can become a member of this exciting team of volunteers  or to learn more about Disaster Services contact Stephanie Kappos, Unit Director/ Readiness and Response at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call the office number.
